Concert Marathon Ahead

My party weekend starts tonight. Yeah, you read that right. Tonight and it will end Sunday.

Thursday Electrelane’s Verity Susman debut later this night at the Ausland with her new experimental, psychedelic, improvisational noise project (?!).

Friday Black Ambient Enlightened Ambient Night at O’Tannenbaum. A pre-Transmediale event with synth madness by Innercity and Dolphins Into The Future. Starts late, should be great. (His new LP is so good.)

Saturday Mass grave at Schokoladen. Omega Massif tuning down their guitars and playing early, because this concert has to end around 10. I’ll probably standing outside or near the bathroom. See you later at the ://About Nachti night ://about blank when Robag Wruhme is djing one of his famous minimal sets.

Sunday The Immanent Lie at NK. The perfect combination of Jazz, Noise, Freeform, Experimental. What a line up, John Wiese, Bill Kouligas, hotshot Eli Keszler and John Duncan.

I can sleep when I’m dead. On Monday starts Transmediale. Yeehaw.

Alpinist vs. Masakari

Everyone’s last year hardcore split record was the joint venture between Germany’s Alpinist and Masakari from the States. Perfect released for their US tour. If you missed it like me, now you have the chance to see their appearance at New Direction Fest in Olympia, WA.

I think there are rumors they’ll touring Germany in summer.

Burning Witch

Southern Lord warriors from Thorr’s Hammer, Goatsnake, Asva, Sunn O))) and Khanate bringing their complete army with them. All 4 records and a Live DVD in a indestructible box. If you wanna fight they’ll convince you brutally with slow slow slow guitars and eerie vocals.

Grouper & Jefre Cantu-Ledesma

Berlin’s very own Transmediale is starting next week. So many good concerts and events but I’ll come to that later this week. Promise.

One concert is standing out. Liz Harris aka Grouper and Jefre Cantu-Ledesma performing a 7 hour performance/ sound environment. Should be very interesting, I’m curious.

To get an idea what you can expect listen to Grouper doing a Dead Moon cover song here at Gorilla vs. Bear (it’s taken from the exclusive 7 inch that accompanies the latest edition of the YETI magazine). And a new song by Jefre taken from his upcoming 12 inch Visiting This World.

Wilco or Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy Coffee

That’s a new Wilco video, the first one in 12 years. Super sweet with your childhood friends Popeye, Olivia and Bluto and a cool song too. Nels Cline is the man. Anyway, the more important news are you can get some new Wilco coffee. Probably fair-trade and very delicious.

That’s not all. As a Wilco fan it’s pretty obvious which coffee you wanna drink from now on, but imagine yourself as a Wilco and a Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy fan. Mr. Beard is having his own coffee brand as well.

Decisions, decisions. I can’t help you. I prefer my Zabar’s Hazelnut Coffee.

As music fan you can provide yourself with a lot of strange things. Records are necessary, but do you need every color or different artworks? What about a Cannibal Corpse mug or a Thin Lizzy belt buckle? I was stunned when I first saw the Jello Biafra doll and for heaven’s sake for what do I need a Attila Csihar (of Mayhem and Sunn O))) fame) action figure?

I’m a big fan of this particular acoustic guitar picking sound. I really enjoy listening to this kind of music. At home or live. I always wanted to see Glenn Jones playing live but I didn’t had the chance so far. Don’t get me wrong I’ve seen Richard Bishop, James Blackshaw, Steffen Basho-Junghans or Steve Gunn but Glenn Jones is still missing on my imaginary list. Maybe this could put me off, NPR brings us a 15 minutes live appearance by this masterful folk guitarist.

My Disco

Okay, here it is as I promised. My Disco’s first official video. Taken from their last record Little Joy, this is Turn.

Started in Melbourne as a post-hardcore band and changed to a more Shellac-like sound to find finally their own sound on Little Joy released by Temporary Residence. A truly awesome record, nearly danceable, reduced to the minimum. Just drums, bass, and guitar. Very well recorded from Steve Albini (like most of their records). You have to know this band!

Ha, I took this picture last week at Berlin’s Bread & Butter. I think the laser show in the video looks much cooler because it was made by Robin Fox (google him).
